My Journey With God! |
My journey with God began early. Throughout my childhood and teen years, I remember the times when His presence was so real that I would look forward to the times when I would escape, go to my room, and there on my knees, talk to God and read His Word. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John were my favourite books. I was fascinated with the life and ministry of Jesus. I wanted to become a follower of Jesus and serve Him. During those formative years, my mother played a key role in my spiritual development. From time to time she would encourage me that if serving Him really was my desire then I would need to get to know Him in a deeply, personal way. Service, she stressed, would flow forth from my relationship with Him. Use these years, she would say, to prepare yourself and when God sees that you are ready, you will know what He wants you to do. So for the next 20+ years I entered the school of preparation. Even while working within the business community in the various capacities as a bookkeeper, Credit Manager, General Insurance Agent I was busy developing my faith within the context of both the Christian & secular community. I wanted to strengthen my faith to the degree where I would feel comfortable in interacting with people who had embraced this world's culture & belief system. To prepare myself, I read extensively, enrolled in workshops, seminars and conferences. I served both within and outside the church, volunteering in various projects. Eventually I received my Diploma and later my Master's Degree from Regent College. Now for the past 25 years, I have served as Associate Pastor, Senior Pastor and Family Counsellor. A few of my highlights in this journey has been in establishing a Residential Home for troubled teens from the ages of 13-17, opening three counselling offices, training counsellors, contracting with the Provincial Government to maintain day & overnight parks, and serving as Pastor in 3 congregations. In 1993 we moved to Aldergrove, British Columbia where I continue to serve as Pastor of Hillside Community Church. Serving the Lord and the faith community is great. But knowing the One whom I serve is even greater. If you have a church family, that's fantastic. If you haven't, and you would like to explore what being in Christian community is all about, we invite you to come and meet us. Bill (& Anna) Keyes |
