www.EnjoyLife.ca uses JavaScript - an HTML based programming language - to enable certain features. Most notably these are:
- expandable/collapsible lists (see Questions)
- button changes and message on MouseOver (ie. hovering over a button)
- viewing the content of individual events (see Events calendar)
- Search function
- encrypted email addresses and sensitive text
- possible future improvements
JavaScript is not used to extract any information about the user or the user's browser, etc. Enabling of JavaScript poses no security risk to the user on this site; no adware or viruses can be installed from www.EnjoyLife.ca.
In order to appreciate the EnjoyLife website fully, JavaScript should be enabled. Following are some instructions on how to enable JavaScript in 3 of the most popular browsers.
Common browsers used: Internet Explorer Mozilla Firefox Netscape
Internet Explorer (version 6.0 discussed here) - see note at bottom first!
You may collapse (or open) the lists (for viewing ease) by double clicking on the headings, if desired.

Internet Explorer (later versions) also has other various security settings which may prevent scripts from running immediately. In that event, the information bar may appear with the message "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer. Click here for options...". In that event, click the bar and select "Allow Blocked Content..." - answer YES to the message about running active content. JavaScript should be (temporarily) allowed/enabled for your browser session. You will likely have to allow active content again next time.
Mozilla Firefox (version 1.0.7 discussed here)
Mozilla Firefox represents a new level of security against Spyware and Viruses. This is achieved by careful design, and by disallowing ActiveX execution. Some sites will require ActiveX controls (not EnjoyLife!) to view specialized content, etc. If you must visit such sites, Firefox will not display such content - use Internet Explorer instead. However, Firefox can control scripting (which could be malevolent) easily. To enable JavaScript in Firefox

in the Advanced dialog (click the Advanced button), you may select additional control. For this website, make sure that you have enabled "Change images" and possibly "Change status bar text" (although that control is not currently used on EnjoyLife). Other advanced settings can be changed, at your discretion.
Firefox provides for many useful extension (ie. plug-in enhancements) to modify its behaviour. One very useful extension is NoScript, by Giorgio Maone. NoScript can be setup to disable JavaScript (thereby providing maximum security) except for site which you specify. This behaviour allows transparent security while allowing safe sites (easily specified by you, the user!) to execute JavaScript commands. NoScript is highly recommended and is available at:
https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=722
For more information on NoScript, check out: www.noscript.net.
Netscape (version 7.1 discussed here)
Open the Edit Menu, select Preferences, double click Advanced and select Scripts and Plugins. You should see the following screen:
At the top of the right pane, click the box entitled "Enable JavaScript for ... Navigator". Seven sub-categories of JavaScript control exist (all are ticked when you enable JavaScript for Navigator). For this website, make sure that you have enabled "Change images" and possibly "Change status bar text" (although that control is not currently used on EnjoyLife).
